Summary of position:
Under the general direction of the Management Consular Officer, the common services officer manages and co-ordinates logistical execution of program objectives and goals assisting in implementation when required; manages the provision and creation of non-routine information and/or documentation; oversees and inputs into complex administrative support systems; provides services to a diverse client base and initiates proactive collaboration acting as the focal point of contact for common services within a mission; supervises staff and performs other duties as required.

Essential qualifications:
Education:
• University degree from a recognized university

Language:
• Fluency in English (oral and written)

Experience:
• Minimum 2 year recent* experience in government or in private sector company in a minimum of three (3) of the following areas:
- Finance
- Human Resources
- Property
- Materiel
- Procurement
• Minimum 2 year recent* experience in supervision** of at least 3 employees





Note: **Experience in supervision means supervising others directly and/or overseeing work by others who do not necessarily report to you.

• Experience in researching issues, analyzing information, in writing comprehensive reports and making recommendations.

*Recent experience refers to the depth and breadth of experience associated with having performed a broad range of related activities acquired within the last five (5) years. It will be assessed on the basis of the scope, the quantity, complexity, diversity of the work performed, and degree of autonomy.

Knowledge of:
• Generally-accepted principles, regulations, policies, procedures and practices in the public and private sectors in at least three (3) of the following areas: (Note: Two areas must be the same as the area listed under experience):

- Finance
- Human Resources
- Real Property Management
- Procurement
- Information and Technology Management
- Materiel Management

Ability:
• Effective Communication (oral & written)
• Effective interpersonal relationships and respect
• Ability to analyze, evaluate and present information to facilitate decision making.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:
Language:

• Working knowledge of French and Dutch

Experience:

• Experience working for a High Commission or an Embassy
• Knowledge of Global Affairs Canada’s organizational structure and programs as established through the various Branches/Sectors/Bureaus/Missions.

If candidates meet the factors listed in the asset qualifications they must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their covering letter.

Operational Requirements:
• Ability to work overtime and sometimes on short notice.
• Occasional travel (domestic and/or international).

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Candidates must have a valid work permit at the time of submitting their application.

o Certificate of Canadian Citizenship (if applicable);
