Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the Common Service Officer and direct supervision of the Office of the Ambassador, act as the Driver
for the Ambassador and other Embassy personnel and visitors; provide school transportation for Embassy personnel children; maintain Embassy vehicle log; ensure regular Embassy vehicle maintenance; provide courier services for Embassy mail; ; coordinate diplomatic mail; perform general administrative tasks; perform other duties; and act as maintenance support for minor maintenance work at the Embassy and staff quarters.

Essential qualifications:
High School diploma from a recognized institution
or
Federal Certificate of Competence (FCC) / Eidgenössische Fähigkeitszeugnis (EFZ).

Language:
Fluency in German and English (oral and written)

Experience:
A minimum of four months Pprofessional driving experience during the last five years.

Requirements:
Must possess a valid permanent Swiss driver’s license
For the past 5 years held a satisfactory safe driving record (Driver’s abstract).

Knowledge:
Familiarity with Swiss and European driving rules and regulations
Knowledge of the Canton of Bern and surroundings
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook mail, Word, Excel) and Internet

Asset Qualifications:
Previous driving working in a diplomatic mission, international or governmental organization or private sector.

Previous minor maintenance experience working in a diplomatic mission, international or governmental organization or private sector.
Fluency in Canada’s other official language (French)
Knowledge of general administrative practices and procedures
Experience in vehicle maintenance
Training related to provision of minor maintenance related to areas such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, etc.

Operational Requirements:
Normal work week 40 hours per week
Ability and willingness to work overtime when required
Ability and willingness to travel occasionally
Available to start as of July 1st, 2016

Condition(s) of Employment:
The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to Reliability Status Check (RS). To conduct the Reliability Status Check (RS), the candidate must submit the following documents on being selected:

• Police/criminal record certificate;
• Credit check;
• Passport;
• Certificate of Canadian Citizenship (if applicable);
• Birth Certificate;
• 2 x recent passport photos;
• Certificate(s) of employment/letter(s) of reference;
• School certificate.

Area of selection:
This position is open to candidates who are eligible to work in Switzerland at the time of submitting their application, who meet all of the essential qualifications stated below and whose applications are received by the closing date. Proof of right to work in Switzerland and educational qualifications will be required at the selection and interview stage of the process respectively.

The results of this competition may also be used to establish an eligibility list of staff for similar openings at the Embassy of Canada to Switzerland which might arise in the 12 months following the completion of this competition.
