Summary of position:
The Embassy of Canada in Beirut has a requirement for a Driver / Messenger with responsibilities including but not limited to the following:

• Providing transportation services for embassy staff and other authorized passengers as notified by the dispatcher.
• Delivering and collecting items and material (including purchases) necessary to the missions operations and acting as messenger to deliver and collect diplomatic bags and shipments.
• Following up on government formalities and feedback on necessary required documentation transferred in a timely manner to the management for action.
• Ensuring proper maintenance of official vehicles by reporting any defects and repairs required and conducting timely regular services for the upkeep of the vehicles.
• Maintaining vehicle log records and completing the inspection and repair form as required.


Essential qualifications:
Education:
• A Secondary School Diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Language:
• Proficiency in English and/or French (written and spoken).
• Proficiency in Arabic (written and spoken).



Experience:
• At least six months of recent experience (within the past three (3) years) working as a Driver / Messenger for a corporate organization, foreign mission or other government office or international organization.
• At least one (1) year of recent experience (within the past three (3) years) in running errands or in a general office support role.
• Experience providing client service and working with external service providers.


Knowledge:
• Knowledge of cities, villages, government institutions and important destination routes in the region.
• Knowledge of local driving regulations and road signs, and driver’s safety.
• Basic knowledge of vehicles and mechanics.
• General knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages.

Ability/Competencies:
• Ability to safety and effectively drive a variety of vehicles, including cars, trucks and vans with automatic and standard transmissions within Lebanon including through congested traffic.
• Ability to read and understand road maps, judge distances, understand directions and plan routes.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to communicate clearly.
• Judgement.
• Team player.
• Interpersonal Relations.


Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:
• Professionally trained and able to drive an armoured vehicle.
• Knowledge of the two official languages of Canada (English and French).

Candidates must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their covering letter.

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends.
• Must have a valid Lebanese driver’s license and be capable of driving in Lebanese driving conditions.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• The successful candidates must be able to legally work in Lebanon.
• Applicants must hold a valid working authorization covering the period of employment. If the employment is of an indeterminate nature, or becomes indeterminate, then the work authorization should be permanent or lead by itself to permanent work authorization. The Canadian Government cannot sponsor a candidate to obtain work authorization documents.
• The appointment of the successful candidates will be subject to Medical Clearance and Reliability Check (RC).Reliability status must be maintained throughout employment – failure to do so may result in dismissal.
