Summary of position:
Under the supervision of the Management and Consular Services Officer, operates the central telephone switchboard serving all programs of the Canadian Embassy, Ankara and Consulate General, Istanbul; provides general information to visitors on the Consular program and directs specific queries to relevant programs within each mission; answers general enquiries on Canada in English, French and Turkish; directs outgoing mail for the Mission; performs other duties as required.

Essential qualifications:
Applicants must clearly demonstrate on their application that they meet all of the essential qualifications.
Education:

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.

Language:
• Fluency in French, oral;
• Fluency in English, both written and oral;
• Fluency in Turkish, both written and oral.

Experience:

• A minimum of 1 year of recent* experience working in an office environment

*Recent Experience is referred to as within the last 5 years.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:

Language:

• Fluency in French (written)


Experience:

• A minimum of 2 years of recent* experience with providing client service to the general public
• Experience working with a telephone switchboard system.
• Experience working with office software such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Experience working in an Embassy, Consulate or Multi-National Company

* Recent Experience is referred to as within the last 5 years.

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• Ability to work overtime.
• Annual leave may be restricted due to operational needs
• Requirement to undergo training and obtain (and maintain) security clearances
• As a member of the Canadian diplomatic presence abroad, required to adhere to Canada's Code on Values & Ethics.
• Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, 5 days a week

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Able to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Reliability Status Clearance (RS). Please note that RS must be maintained throughout your employment at the Embassy, as failure to do so may result in dismissal.
