Summary of position:
Under the general direction of and reporting to the Foreign Policy and Diplomacy Section (FPDS) Program Manager:

a) Provides reporting and analysis on political, security, human rights and socio-economic developments in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region (IKR), as well as on national and regional policies, foreign relations and interests of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and other local actors

b) Coordinates external communications and public affairs in cooperation with the officers responsible for media relations and public affairs in Erbil

c) Provides assistance on incoming and outgoing visits to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq

d) Performs other duties as required, including translation and interpretation

Essential qualifications:
Education:
• A bachelor’s degree in social sciences (or equivalent) from a recognized university or two (2) year’s equivalent experience over and above the experience specified below

Language:
• Fluency in English (oral, written)
• Fluency in Arabic (oral, written)
• Fluency in Kurdish (oral, written)

Experience:
• Three (3) years’ experience working in an office with main duties related to one or all the following areas – political, economic, or social analysis, communications, public affairs, cultural and media relations, event management, drafting reports, speeches, and social media content

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of Kurdistan region of Iraq/Iraq political, economic, social, and cultural issues and challenges
• Understanding of the regional issues and challenges
• Familiarity with MS Office Suite
• Knowledge of standard office procedures and practices

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:

• Ability to communicate in French
• Experience in a diplomatic mission or international environment

If candidates meet the factors listed in the asset qualifications they must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their covering letter.

• May be required to work overtime
• May involve periodic domestic travel

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Must obtain Reliability security clearance and FCO security clearance
• Must be legally entitled to work in Iraq
• The candidate must be eligible to work/be employed in Iraq’s Kurdistan region as work permits are not sponsored

Open to external applicants residing in Iraq, and to employees occupying an indeterminate or term position at the Office of the Embassy of Canada to Iraq in Erbil and the Embassy of Canada in Baghdad, who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date.
