Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the Head of the Events Production Team, the Events Coordinator provides administrative, financial, and program support for the section, including such tasks as, helping to organize a variety of Embassy and third party events, preparing and paying invoices, assisting with the management of the calendar, and performing other duties as required. The incumbent is often required to work independently in an environment with many competing events and changing priorities, and is thus required to exercise flexibility, adaptability and the judgement necessary to ensure that the Embassy is well represented and that the all Embassy events run smoothly.

Essential qualifications:
Language:
English (The ability to work in French would be an asset.)
Education:
A degree from an accredited university or college; or an acceptable combination of relevant experience, education, and training related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position.
Experience:
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in an automated office environment;
• Experience organising events and/or visits;
• Experience dealing with the public and providing excellent client and customer service;
• Experience in records and data management;
• Experience in financial administration, budgets and the preparation of reports; and
• Extensive experience using Microsoft Office.
RATED REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates who meet the Education and Experience requirements will be assessed on the following qualifications. The assessment may be a written test, an interview, an in-basket exercise, a skills test, or any combination of these methods.
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of general office procedures and practices, including correspondence;
• Knowledge of data management; and
• Knowledge of Internet research.
Abilities:
• Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing;
• Provide excellent customer and client service in person, through email, and by telephone;
• Assist with the organization and implementation of multiple events, while meeting tight timelines;
• Manage multiple competing demands, organize time, and work effectively;
• Analyze and evaluate information effectively;
• Work independently as well as to be a part of a larger team; and
• Work with computer software, such as Excel, Word, Databases.

Asset Qualifications:
• The ability to work in French would be an asset.

Condition of employment (must be met):
1. Eligibility for a Government of Canada Reliability Status which includes a criminal and credit background check; and
2. Independent work authorization in the United States and status in accordance with United States protocol directives for foreign missions.

Area of selection:
• Persons living in the greater Washington Metropolitan area. • Employees of the Embassy of Canada in Washington, D.C. • Employees of any Canadian Mission in the United States. Relocation will not be paid in any circumstance. • Spouses and dependents of Canada-based staff at the Embassy of Canada in Washington, D.C.

Hours of work:
Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Employment for Locally Engaged Staff (LES) in the United States of 37.5 hours per week. The incumbent will be required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends on an as-needed basis. The incumbent may be required to work hours in excess of 37.5 hours some weeks.
