Summary of position:
Under the supervision of the Head of Mission / HOM Assistant, the Official Residence cleaner is responsible for the maintenance, cleaning and upkeep of the Official Residence which includes: ensuring that representative areas are maintained in a high state of tidiness and cleanliness in accordance with an established cleaning schedule; organizing the daily laundry requirements; keeping the inventory record of household linen, crystal, china and silver; polishing all silver items; keeping all linens and items for functions clean and ready to be used; assisting with hospitality and event duties; coordinating with Property section on miscellaneous maintenance issues and purchase requirements; preparation of simple food items such as cutting and cleaning vegetables; performing other household duties as instructed.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. It is not sufficient to simply state responsibilities. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

• Completion of high school education OR an acceptable combination of education and experience related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position.

• Basic proficiency in Arabic. Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type; introduce themselves and others; ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they have; interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help;
• Proficiency in English or French.

• Minimum of two (2) years recent experience (within the past 5 years) working as cleaner or housekeeper.

Rated Requirements:

Applicants must also meet the rated requirements listed below related to knowledge, skills and competencies. These requirements will be assessed by assessment methods, which may include, but are not limited to written exams, interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and / or psychometric assessments.

• Knowledge in protocol for serving;
• Knowledge of the use of kitchen appliances and cleaning equipment;
• Knowledge of safety measures in the use of chemicals and cleaning products.

• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision;
• Ability to prepare basic food items including cleaning and cutting vegetables;
• Ability to work at heights and climb ladders;
• Ability to maintain inventories, upkeep of equipment and furniture;

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

• Previous experience in a similar position for a corporate organization, foreign mission or other government office or international organization;
• Knowledge of the two official languages of Canada (English and French).

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• Ability and willingness to work overtime, periodic evenings or weekends. Overtime is only paid after completing the required 37.5 hours of work per week.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• The successful candidates must be able to reside and work legally in Lebanon;
• Applicants must hold a valid working authorization covering the period of employment;
• The appointment of the successful candidates will be subject to medical clearance and Reliability Status;
• Before an offer of employment can be made, candidates must provide a local address as proof of residence so that if selected, it will appear on the offer letter;
• A reliability rating (security clearance) is required to obtain this position at the Embassy of Canada and will be subject to audits. This rating must be maintained throughout the employment – loss of the latter is sufficient reason to dismiss the employee.
