Term Details:
** This competition will be used to pre-select candidates for future vacancies at the LE-A2 level across the mission (in FPDS, Trade, Common Services Section, etc.). There is one indeterminate position to be filled immediately. This competitive staffing process may be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates for this position and similar positions at the same level with various tenures, including indeterminate and term at the Embassy of Canada in Beijing. If the selected candidate is already an active Locally-Engaged Staff (LES) employee, the eligibility list may also be used for assignments or acting appointments. **

Summary of position:
The position is an administrative support- level position for one or more program(s) at mission.

Provides clerical and administrative support services; provides advice and recommendations on changes of procedures and practices; tracks budget and processes payment; drafts correspondence, reports, letters and routine documents; provides logistical support for travels, events and/or official visits; researches, collects, validates and maintains information; maintains operational contacts; responds to inquiries related to services; translates documents and/or provides interpretation; performs other duties as required.

Essential qualifications:
Education:
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university, OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience

Language:
• Proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
• Proficiency in Mandarin (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

Experience:
• Minimum 1 year’s recent experience (within last 3 years) in each of the following areas:
o Experience in the full range of office administration
o Experience in providing client service
o Experience in working in a team environment

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Knowledge of general office procedure and practices
• General knowledge of financial or budget management

Abilities/skills:
• Ability to write effective business correspondence, reports and letters in English and Chinese
• Ability to plan and organize workflow and to coordinate information
• Ability to perform translation and interpretation from English to Chinese and vice versa

• Proficiency in French (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

• Previous work experience in an international organization

Operational Requirements:
• Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice, as required
• Able to travel as required

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. The Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance

Area of selection:
This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date. Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interview in Beijing at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Beijing at their own expense.
