Summary of position:
Under the direct supervision of the Common Services Assistant (receptionist) the responsibilities of the incumbent are:
- Provide safe driving services to senior officials including the Head of Mission, program managers, mission personnel and mission employees, as well as visitors or dignitaries in addition to providing delivery services and/or shopping;
- Give safety recommendations to passengers regarding movement in the vehicle;
- Drive officials and mission employees in a regular or armored diplomatic vehicle following health and safety policies and procedures;
- Liaise with local authorities, such as airport, protocol, post offices, customs and licensing, as well as with shipping lines and other service providers, in order to facilitate customs clearance of mission and EC shipments, high-level visits, diplomatic letters etc.;
- Perform tasks related to cleaning and regular maintenance of vehicles and armored vehicles;
- Practice driving techniques that respect the environment (eco-friendly);
- Carry out certain work-related tasks, for example paying fees and tolls, ensuring that monthly parking fees are paid, update daily log and fill out compensation forms.
Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.
Education:
• Having completed and obtained BFEM certificate.
Language:
• Fluency in French (oral and writing) *;
• Knowledge of Wolof (oral).
*The incumbent must be proficient in French to understand instructions and share information with colleagues, local authorities, and traffic officers
Experience:
• A minimum of two years of recent* professional experience as a driver in a diplomatic mission, an international organisation or a project funded by the Government of Canada;
• Experience in driving a vehicle with manual and automatic transmission.
* Recent is defined as within the last 5 years.
Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of greater Dakar’s urban layout;
• Ability to read a road map;
• Knowledge of the local driving regulations (Highway Traffic Act);
• Basic knowledge of auto mechanics;
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Internet Explorer).

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

Operational Requirements:
• Working hours: 40 hours per week;
• The employee may be called upon to work overtime with or without notice which may take place after regular hours and on public holidays
Condition(s) of Employment:
• Candidates must have a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period. If the employment is indeterminate, the work authorization should be permanent or itself lead to a permanent work authorization;
• Before an offer of employment can be made, candidates must provide a local address as proof of residence in the specific city, region or country so that if selected, it will appear on the offer letter;
• Obtain and maintain a reliability rating (security clearance) from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period;
• Be in good physical condition: carry suitcases and parcels, change tires, etc;
• Meet the requirements of the medical examination, including sight and hearing (mandatory);
• Valid driver\\'s license throughout the period of employment;
• Valid passport;
• Successfully complete specialized training to drive an armored vehicle and ensure the safety of authorized mission personnel in high-risk locations.
