Chef de cuisine at the Official Residence

Starting salary - $11.46 USD per hour (non-negotiable) + benefits. The salary will be calculated accordingly, based on the number of working hours per week. Additional Benefits: 13th month bonus (equal to one-month salary), international working environment. Per current terms and conditions: a performance based yearly salary increase and paid overtime for additional hours beyond 37.5 hours per week.

Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the Head of Mission (HOM), the incumbent is responsible for preparing all culinary aspects of Canada’s representation abroad including assisting with identifying appropriate Canadian and local cuisine and assembling such cuisine for official and unofficial hospitality events (including formal and informal luncheons, dinners, cocktails and receptions).

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

• Diploma in Culinary Arts, Catering or Food and Beverage from a government recognized institute/college/university or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

• Fluency in English or French is essential (reading, writing and speaking) and Arabic (oral)

• At least two (2) years of recent experience (in the past five (5) years) working as a Sous-Chef or Chef in a restaurant, hotel, diplomatic mission, or similar service environment in the Food & Beverage industry.
• Experience with the meal preparation for large events of at least 10 guests.
• Experience in cooking Western and Lebanese cuisine.

Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.


• Knowledge of general culinary procedures and practices;
• Knowledge of general food quality and safety;
• Knowledge of the reliable local service providers in the food industry.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.
• Experience in baking breads and making desserts;
• Experience in meal preparations for large events of 30 guests or more.

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• This is a part time position with flexibility on the working schedule based on operational needs;
• Availability and willingness to work overtime, periodic evenings or weekends as required. Overtime is only paid after completing the required 37.5 hours of work per week;
• Ability to lift boxes up to 20 kg.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• The successful candidate must be able to legally work in Lebanon or at the Embassy of Canada in Beirut.
• Applicants must hold a valid working authorization covering the period of employment. The Canadian Government cannot sponsor a candidate to obtain work authorization documents.
• The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to Medical Clearance and Reliability Check (RC).
• A “Reliability Status” is the minimum security requirement needed to obtain before starting a new position with the Embassy of Canada in Lebanon. The security clearance must be maintained throughout employment – failure to do so may result in dismissal.
