Summary of position:
The Maintenance Technician's primary role is to provide general maintenance services and assist with repairs on crown owned or leased assets and equipment in one or more of the following areas: carpentry, masonry, painting, audio-visual, and various systems (including air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical). This includes preparing preventive maintenance schedules and assisting other maintenance team members on various projects, as required. The Maintenance Technician position normally reports to a Senior Maintenance Technician or a Common Services Officer position.

General services positions are positions involved in various services and mission operations, such as security, driving, and housekeeping services, mailroom operations, hospitality, and property maintenance in Canada's network of missions, which include official residences, Chanceries, staff quarters, Embassies/High commissions, Consulates and any other facilities abroad under Canada's responsibility.

Essential qualifications:
Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education
• High School Diploma with at least 5 CSEC passes (Mathematics and English Language included)

Language
• Working knowledge of English (oral and written)

Experience
- Evidence of at least two years recent* related experience working for a diplomatic or government organization. (*recent is defined as within the last 4 years)
- Experience in at least two (2) of the following areas -
• Carpentry, Masonry, Painting, Audio-visual, Air conditioning, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical systems
• Experience preparing equipment maintenance schedules
• Experience writing assessments for projects and maintenance/repair work


Rated Requirements:
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral in-person interview and a practical test.

Knowledge
• Knowledge of repair techniques in at least two (2) of the following three (3) areas: electricity, plumbing, mechanical systems
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel & Outlook)

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

Operational Requirements:
• Hours of work: Normal work week 40 hours. (Mondays - Thursdays 07:30 - 16:30hrs, Fridays 07:30 - 13:30hrs.)
• Work Schedule is subject to change.
• Ability to work overtime is mandatory.

Condition(s) of Employment:
- Ability to retain a Government of Canada Enhanced Reliability Security Screening.
- Holder of a recent Police Clearance issued by the Guyana Police Force.
- Holder of a valid driver’s licence (manual vehicles is mandatory).
- Eligibility to live and work in Guyana.

The Conditions of Employment are mandatory requirements for continued employment with the High Commission of Canada in Guyana. These may be reviewed on a periodic basis and failure to meet any of the mandatory conditions may result in a change to employment status up to and including dismissal.
