Summary of position:
As an International Business Development and Public Affairs Officer, you will be responsible for promoting trade, investment and culture across a variety of sectors. Key responsibilities include:

• Development of commercial, economic and political ties between Canada and Iceland
• Respond to requests for information from Canadian business clients, and/or provide strategic advice to clients these clients on navigating the Icelandic market
• Identify and develop business, innovation and cultural opportunities for Canadian clients
• Relationship and network building with Canadian clients and key Icelandic contacts
• Analyze business or market access issues encountered by Canadian business clients, and advise of effective strategies for resolving them
• In collaboration with the Nordic Regional Investment Officer, support Icelandic companies seeking to invest in Canada
• Contribute to the development of annual business plans, goals and objectives, and policies for the international business development and cultural programmes at the Embassy
• Event planning and management
• Social media officer

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications. Only those candidates who have all the essential qualifications and demonstrate this clearly within their application will then proceed to the next stage of the process.

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized college or university in a discipline related to the job requirements (e.g. commerce, marketing, business administration, international trade or a related discipline)

Language:
• Fluency in English and Icelandic, both written and spoken.

Experience:
• Experience developing and managing client, partner and/or stakeholder relationships.
• Minimum of 2 years recent* relevant work experience, in the private sector or in government relevant to the position.
• Experience providing high quality services to internal and/or external clients
*Recent Experience is referred to as within the last 7 years.

Rated qualifications
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV :

• Experience in an Icelandic organization in the following sectors:
o Clean technologies & Climate Technologies
o Blue Economy, specifically pertaining to fisheries and ocean technology
o Innovation, research and development
• Master’s level degree from a recognized college or university
• Knowledge of French, written and/or spoken
• Knowledge of Canada and the Canadian political-economic environment, as well as Canadian business practices
• Experience managing the organization of events, such as seminars and/or participation in trade shows and cultural events
• Experience in international sales and/or marketing
• Experience managing projects

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• Willingness and ability to travel within Iceland and abroad.
• Willingness and ability to occasionally work outside regular working hours and/or weekends when required.
• Willingness to undertake Officer in Charge duties during Head of Mission absences.
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, 5 days a week

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Able to obtain and retain a Government of Canada Reliability Status Clearance (ERC). Please note that ERC must be maintained throughout your employment at the Embassy, as failure to do so may result in dismissal.
• Must have a valid authorization to work and reside in Iceland.
• Before an offer of employment can be made, candidates must provide a local address as proof of residence in the specific city, region or country so that if selected, it will appear on the offer letter.
