Summary of position:
Under the direction of the Locally Engaged IT Professional Supervisor the incumbent will perform the following key duties:
• Identify, resolve and document IM/IT incidents reported by Embassy clients;
• Provide technical and procedural guidance on the use of LAN and associated IM/IT equipment;
• Provide technical and procedural guidance on the use of Audio/Video conferencing and associated equipment;
• Provide one-on-one IM/IT coaching to Embassy clients as required/requested;
• Document resolutions of common or recurring IM/IT incidents for Embassy clients and share information with IM/IT support community;
• Monitor Embassy service tracking program and Embassy IM/IT mailbox on a day to day basis to action IM/IT incidents;
• Setup and teardown of temporary IT equipment required by sections or programs in/out of the Embassy
• Identify, analyse and document problems encountered on the IM/IT infrastructure;
• Coordinate and facilitate assistance from outside service technicians (3rd party support) as required;
• Keep abreast of informatics technology developments within and outside of Global Affairs Canada and if appropriate, recommend use at the Embassy for added efficiencies and cost savings;
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential qualifications:
• Graduation from a college or university with a specialization in computer science or related discipline OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience

• Proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

• A minimum of 2 years of experience working in an office environment
• A minimum of 2 years of experience providing competent IT user support over the telephone, by e-mail and in person in a Microsoft Windows environment
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in supporting and maintaining Conference Room Audio/Video equipment
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in supporting commercial, off-the-shelf software (including Microsoft Office suite including Microsoft Outlook) and hardware
• A minimum of 1 years of experience in supporting mobile communications devices (such as Laptops, smartphones and tablets)

• Knowledge of supporting a Local Area Network (LAN) and its environment
• Knowledge of theories and practices of IT related functions: software, hardware, networking, and communications
• Knowledge of trouble-shooting techniques used in the resolution of technical problems pertaining to IT equipment and infrastructure

• Ability to analyze, diagnose and resolve technical problems related to the use of hardware and software in a networking environment
• Ability to analyze and identify operational and user requirements for planning and development purposes
• Ability to provide user support, coaching, and training by correspondence, over the telephone and in person
• Ability to describe a problem succinctly and discuss likely causes and solutions with a view to solving the problem

Asset Qualifications:
• Proficiency in French (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
• Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

• Experience in Information Management
• Experience working in an international environment such as an Embassy, International Organization or Multi-National Company;
• Tracking escalating service issues using a problem tracking system such as BMC Remedy
• Experience in supporting Microsoft software (Windows 7 and 10, Office Suite 2013 and 2016)
• Experience in Scripting and Programming
• Experience in planning and deploying Audio/Video conferencing solutions
• Experience in producing live cast web events using internet conferencing solutions

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• Ability to work overtime on short notice as required
• Able to travel domestically and internationally as required
• Annual leave may be restricted due to operational needs
• Requirement to undergo training
• As a member of the Canadian diplomatic presence abroad, requirement to adhere to Canada's Code on Values & Ethics
• Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, 5 days a week.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens.
• The hiring or appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to obtaining Reliability Status (RS) through the Management and Security section of the Embassy. Please note that RS must be maintained throughout your employment at the Embassy, as failure to do so may result in dismissal.

Area of selection:
This position is open to external candidates residing in China at the time of employment and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date. Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Beijing at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Beijing at own expense.
