This position is a Locally Engaged Staff (LES) position, subject to the Terms and Conditions of Employment for LES in London.

Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the Consular Officer, the incumbent processes citizenship applications; The incumbent will work with clients who provide applications by mail or present themselves in person, often in distress, seeking emergency consular services. The incumbent may maintain a register of citizenship applications; provide consular support services to Canadians; respond to general written and verbal enquiries; and performs administrative duties; performs other duties.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and Curriculum Vitae (CV) how they meet each of these essential qualifications. Only candidates who meet all the Essential Requirements will proceed to the next stage of the process.

Language:
• Fluent* in English and French (oral, written, comprehension).

* Fluency will be assessed by a variety of means including written assessment and interview.

Education: A levels or equivalent.

Experience:
• The candidate must have minimum 1 year experience working in an office environment in an administrative support or program assistant capacity.

Rated Requirements:
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written or online examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations, psychometric assessment and/or reference checks.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

• Recent experience working for the Government of Canada
• Recent experience processing travel documents

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• Occasional overtime may be required
• Hours of work will be 37.5 per week, worked Monday to Friday at time to be arranged by the supervisor.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Any job offer is subject to receipt of satisfactory employment and character references and the ability to obtain and maintain a Reliability security screening (including a criminal record and credit check).
• Copies of educational qualifications will be required at the interview stage of the process.
• The successful candidate must have the required documentation allowing the right to work in the UK. Documentation will be required.

Open to all indeterminate and term locally engaged employees at the High Commission, and Canada Based Spouses, who are currently resident in the UK, who hold current documentation allowing them to work in the UK without restriction, who currently possess enhanced reliability status security clearance, who meet all of the essential requirements stated and whose applications are received by the closing date. Candidates holding documentation/visas not renewable in the UK such as the Youth Mobility Visa will only be considered if the visa’s expiry exceeds the term duration.
