Summary of position:
Under the general supervision and guidance of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Liaison Officer (LO), and/or the International Network Manager (INM), the Operation Liaison Assistant (OLA) will perform a wide range of operational, strategic, administrative and clerical activities to assist the CBSA‘s International Network. The OLA will support CBSA efforts to support Canada's national security and public safety priorities and facilitate the free flow of persons and goods within or linked to the LO's area of responsibility (AOR). They will participate in reporting on cross-border criminal activities and trends involving people and goods; liaise with local partners, immigration and customs contacts on a wide range of CBSA mandate issues. The OLA will also assist the LO or Targeting Liaison Officer (TLO)in expanding border management cooperation with officials in countries in the AOR. This will include but is not limited to; professionally represent the LO, TLO, and as required, the INM and Regional Director (RD), and CBSA in communication and networking with representatives of host countries and other organizations. Occasionally or during LO absences, the OLA may be asked to perform some basic activities normally carried out by the LO while exercising initiative and discretion.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language and experience. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

• A degree from a recognized university or high school diploma with an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

• Fluency in written and spoken English.

• A minimum of three years’ work experience in an office environment performing operational and administrative activities by applying and adhering to the relevant rules, policies, regulations, and legislations;
• Conducting research, collecting, and analyzing information and providing operational reports;
• Using computer software (such as Microsoft Office, basic PDF applications, MS Teams) to perform operational and administrative activities;
• Experience in providing financial/budget support OR experience working in law enforcement/immigration/customs/ aviation security and/or airport operations; and
• Experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders; (internal and external) to the organization

Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

• Knowledge of CBSA’s structure, role and mandate; and
• Knowledge of general administration office practices/procedures, as well as logistics support.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• Working hours are Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week – 8:30 to 16:30
• Must be willing and able for occasional duties outside normal working hours (i.e. evenings and weekends), sometimes on short notice;
• Occasional travel, as required, for CBSA business within Australia or internationally.

Condition(s) of Employment:
The successful candidate must:
• Able to obtain and retain a Government of Canada Reliability Status which includes a criminal background check. This clearance is a requirement prior to appointment from the Government of Canada. This involves, among other things, Australian Federal Police checks, credit checks, and validation of qualifications. The required level of security clearance must be maintained throughout the employment period.
• Only Australian citizens, permanent residents or those holding a valid visa permitting them to work unrestricted in Australia will be eligible to apply. The High Commission of Canada in Australia is unable to provide employment sponsorship.
• All new hires on or after the effective date of October 6, 2021 are required to be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment and to attest that they are fully vaccinated prior to their starting date unless accommodation measures are granted.
