Summary of position:
Driver/Messengers provide transportation, delivery and/or errand services to all mission programs. They provide safe driving services to senior officials, program managers, mission staff, and other visitors or dignitaries. They may also drive CBS dependents and clients, in certain circumstances. They provide courier and logistics services, arrange for vehicle maintenance and cleaning, undertake vehicle administrative duties, and may additionally support the mission by assisting with basic administrative, protocol, maintenance and other support services following established mission and departmental policies.

Essential qualifications:
Apart from searching for candidates for current emergency employment the Embassy of Canada in Juba is running a competition to identify candidates for future term and indeterminate openings at the embassy.

Candidates who are interested in term/ permanent employment will be screened and assessed against the essential qualifications as stated below.

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications. Candidates who do not demonstrate that they meet each of these essential qualifications will not receive further consideration.

Education and certification:
• General Secondary Education Certificate
• Valid driving license

Language:
• Fluency in English (written and oral)
• Intermediate level of Sudanese Arabic (oral)
Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years of recent* experience working as a driver (in a diplomatic mission, or in an international or non-governmental organization).
• Experience maintaining detailed driver logs
*recent is defined as within the last 10 years.

Rated criteria

The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:
• Detailed knowledge of the roads and popular landmarks / destinations in Juba and surrounding areas;
• Knowledge of vehicle safety and security practices;
• Knowledge of general vehicle maintenance;
• Detailed knowledge with South Sudanese driving rules and regulations.
Abilities:
• Ability to plan routes in advance and use of a GPS or other internet-based or smartphone applications
• Physical suitability (must be able to lift and move heavy items)
• Ability use a computer to perform basic administrative duties
• Able to draft documents such as report and other administrative items
Competencies:
• Adaptability and flexibility
• Teamwork and cooperation
• Good problem solving skills
• Honesty and integrity
• Tact and discretion


Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

• Knowledge of both official languages of Canada (English and French)
• Mechanical knowledge background
• Completion of driving training(s)
• Experience in driving armoured vehicles

Operational Requirements:
• Ability to work overtime with little notice, which may include weekends
• Must be available to respond in case of emergency to telephone calls which may take place after working hours and during weekends.
• The incumbent could be asked to follow special training on driving an armoured vehicle to insure authorised personnel’s security in high risk locations.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Maintaining a valid driver’s license
• Obtain and maintain a reliability rating (security clearance) from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
• Ability to meet the medical requirements as defined by the employer. Successful candidate(s) may be required to undergo a medical evaluation.
• Candidates must have a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period. If the employment is indeterminate, the work authorization should be permanent or itself lead to a permanent work authorization.
• All new hires on or after the effective date of October 6, 2021 are required to be fully (COVID19) vaccinated as a condition of employment and to attest that they are fully vaccinated prior to their starting date unless accommodation measures are granted.
