Summary of position:
A key member of the High Commission’s Operational Support Team, the Events and Hospitality Manager:
1. Oversees the planning, preparation and delivery of complex and high profile meetings and events along with the administrative and logistical activities related to the events programme at the High Commission of Canada (Canada House);
2. Supervises a team of 3:
a. Protocol and Events Coordinators (2 employees)
b. Events Operations Assistant (1 employee)
3. Provides advice and recommendations for overall Event Governance, the Event Approval Process and the Event Policy and Procedures;
4. Is a key member of the Events Working Group;
5. Stays abreast of industry technology and trends via research and networking, supports use of innovative event technologies;
6. Maintains all event statistics for strategic analysis of the Mission’s Events programme; and
7. Performs other duties as required.

This officer-level position works under the general direction of the Director of Operations and is fairly autonomous. The incumbent works with all sections and is required to interact with people at all levels. The ideal candidate is professional, diplomatic, organised and a people person.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and Curriculum Vitae (CV) how they meet each of these essential qualifications. Only candidates who meet all the Essential Requirements will proceed to the next stage of the process.

Experience:
• at least three (3) years of experience in hospitality management or event management with a responsibility for customer service.
• at least one (1) year of experience supervising staff, including allocation of work, training and performance management

Language:
• Professional level of written and spoken English

*fluency will be assessed by a variety of means including written assessment and interview.

Rated Requirements:
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written or online examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations, psychometric assessment and/or reference checks.

Asset Qualifications:
The High Commission has the right to further screen on Asset Qualifications and as such, preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Candidates should also clearly demonstrate in their cover letter if they meet these factors.
• University degree from a recognised institution
• Degree/diploma/certificate related to Hospitality, Event Management, Tourism or other relevant specialisation
• Ability to work in French
• Experience working in a diplomatic mission or other international organisation

Operational Requirements:
• Must be able to work overtime on short notice on occasion;
• Must be available for occasional duties outside normal working hours (i.e., evenings and weekends);
• Ability to work flexible hours on occasion
