Summary of position:
Under the supervision of the Common Services Officer (Property and Material), the maintenance technician will be responsible for carrying out general repairs (carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electricity, painting, etc.) and functional maintenance tasks (refrigeration, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, boiler operation, etc.) for all equipment and property owned or leased. The maintenance technician must also help in the preparation of preventive maintenance programs, inspect the work done by contractors, ensure the updating of equipment inventories, manage the warehouse and follow up on office supplies.

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.


• A Diploma or certificate from a recognized technical establishment in the field of building, electricity, plumbing, carpentry, refrigeration and air conditioning, electrical engineering, electro technical, masonry or a combination of studies and experience in a Technician role in a field related to the position to be staffed.


• Proficiency in French (oral and written)


• Recent * and significant experience in a position associated with maintenance and repair, including in at least two (02) areas of expertise mentioned in the education criterion above.

* Recent refers to at least 2 years within the last 5 years

Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.


Basic building management concepts and procedures in the following areas:

• Knowledge of repair techniques in the following areas: electricity and electrical engineering, building or plumbing;
• Knowledge of the layout of buildings and infrastructure / Rehabilitation;
• Knowledge of common manual and electric tools;
• Basic computer knowledge.


• Ability to coordinate conflicting priorities, meet deadlines and prioritize work
• Client service orientation ;
• Effective interactive communication - oral and written;
• Teamwork and cooperation;
• Adaptability and flexibility.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

• Previous experience working in a diplomatic mission and/or international organisations.

If candidates meet the requirements listed in the Asset Qualifications, they must clearly demonstrate how they meet those requirements in their cover letter.

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements:
• The regular working hours for the incumbent comply with the regulations applicable to locally recruited staff, i.e. 37.5 hours per week.
• The successful candidate must be able to work overtime evenings and / or weekends as required.
• Regular working hours: 8am to 5pm.

Condition(s) of Employment:
• The successful candidate must be able to work and legally reside in Burkina Faso. If the position is of an indeterminate nature, the work authorization should be permanent or in itself lead to a permanent work authorization.
• A Reliability status (Security status) issued by the Government of Canada must be maintained by the candidate throughout the employment period.
• All new hires on or after the effective date of October 6, 2021 are required to be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment and to attest that they are fully vaccinated prior to their starting date unless accommodation measures are granted.
