Summary of position:
The mandate of the Trade Commissioner Service is to promote Canada's economic interests in global markets by engaging in a range of activities including: contributing to export market development; conducting advocacy and foreign market access activities; understanding and analyzing trade policy issues; attracting foreign investment to Canada; developing a network of international business contact; etc.

The position is an administrative support- level position for the Trade program at mission: provides administrative support services to the program, including clerical duties such as making travel and accommodation arrangements, scheduling meetings and appointments, assisting hospitality events and tracking budget; drafts correspondence, reports, letters and routine financial documents, and processes payments, maintains records of expenditures and fund balances, and provides related reports; researches and compiles information, verifies documents, and maintains records, files and databases. Maintains contacts with local representatives; provides information and responds to inquiries related to services to clients; performs other duties upon request.

Essential qualifications:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university, OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience

Language:
• Proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
• Proficiency in Mandarin (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

Experience:
• Minimum 1 year’s recent experience (within the last 5 years) in each of the following areas:
o Experience in general administrative duties
o Experience in providing client service
o Experience in working in a team environment

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of MS Office Tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Knowledge of general office procedure and practices
• Knowledge of basic budget principles and payment procedures

Abilities/skills:
• Ability to write effective business correspondence in English and Chinese
• Ability to research, interpret sources of information and synthesize data to respond to requests for information from clients
• Ability to plan and organize workflow and to coordinate information
• Ability to plan, coordinate and execute event logistics
• Ability to perform basic translation and interpretation from English to Chinese and vice versa

Asset Qualifications:
Language:
• Ability to communicate in French

Experience:
• Experience in one or more of the following areas:
o Experience in international commerce, international relations or public affairs
o Experience working and liaising with Chinese government agencies and companies
o Experience working in a diplomatic mission or intergovernmental organization

Knowledge:
• General knowledge of the history, geography, major sectors of international trade, economic and political issues of Canada; and the bilateral relations between Canada and China

Operational Requirements:
• Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice, as required
• Ability to travel as required

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. The Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance
• All new hires on or after the effective date of October 6, 2021 are required to be fully vaccinated* as a condition of employment and to attest that they are fully vaccinated prior to their starting date unless accommodation measures are granted.

*You are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after you meet one of the following requirements:
o Meet the definition of fully vaccinated in the country in which you currently reside or Canada
o Received three doses of any Health Canada authorized vaccines or non-Health Canada authorized vaccines
o Received one additional dose of an mRNA vaccine at least 28 days after a complete or incomplete series of a non-Health Canada authorized vaccine

Area of selection:
This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Beijing at own expense.
